Short Description

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services (AAMHCS) is a Community Health Centre that aims to provide services and addresses system inequities to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. The Centre envisions a future in which Toronto’s diverse communities achieve health with dignity.

The (CHP) - Volunteers and Community Engagement Coordinator is someone who sees themselves as a leader, enabler, mentor and team player for the agency, and provides expertise in relation to volunteers and community relations. The person in this role works to enhance the quality of community relations and cultivate opportunities for community members/residents to become supporters of Access Alliance (as volunteers, students, and members); leads and/or participates in programs, services and initiatives that strengthen the agency and the communities it serves; develops and maintains relationships with key institutions (educational, political, social, etc.), and foundations, and provides agency wide leadership with relation to supporter engagement, including volunteers, leadership and student placement programs.

Detailed Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides organizational leadership in the development and articulation of the agency’s community engagement strategy
  • Provides leadership and direction for all aspects of student, volunteer and supporter programs, including program communications and orientation
  • Work with volunteers, community members, residents, agency alumni and other organizations to identify health priorities and work in collaboration with the community to plan for and implement strategies to achieve better health
  • Be familiar with and use diverse community engagement and outreach strategies to increase control over and improve the health of our target population
  • Provides for the analysis of the organization’s needs with respect to support from community members/residents and agency alumni in all supporter areas (volunteers, students, board members, and members)
  • Generate a process of stakeholder ownership, including community agencies, clients/ participants and community members, in the planning, delivery and evaluation of projects
  • Encourages and supports the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of supporter systems, structures, opportunities, initiatives and events throughout the organization
  • Provides leadership and support to staff with respect to understanding and planning for volunteer and student roles and participation in agency services, initiatives, events and committees, and promotes the availability of the center as a learning site
  • Act as a resource for community groups by facilitating workshops, seminar, information sessions or groups by providing consultation, referrals and information, and by advocating on behalf of or for groups in the community 
  • Evaluates the role and participation of supporters in services, initiatives and committees, developing relevant evaluation tools to assess outcomes and satisfaction, respond effectively to findings
  • Responsible for leading, supporting and encouraging the relationship with key foundations
  • Provide stewardship for organization supporters, including past volunteers, donors, ex-staff, and agency alumni
  • Maintain familiarity with community engagement and volunteer services and programs in the community,
  • and share this information organizationally as appropriate
  • Based on evaluation and community input, recommend changes to the day to day running of the community engagement and supporter programs
  • Design systems for data collection and keeps track of and reports program statistics and funder reports on a timely basis
  • Participate in the development of funding proposals
  • Contribute to the vision, mission, values, principles and strategic directions of the agency
  • Other duties as required

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS (BOLDED POINTS ARE A MUST HAVE):

  • Graduate degree in a relevant discipline (community development, social work, adult education, volunteer/supporter engagement), or combination of graduate degree with relevant related experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in volunteer and community engagement based program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience in event and program design, planning, development, coordination and outcome evaluation.
  • Thorough understanding of anti-oppression and social determinants of health frameworks.
  • Thorough knowledge of and a commitment to the principles of community engagement and volunteerism.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multi-racial, multi-lingual communities and teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in resource management: partnership development, funding proposal writing.
  • Ability to influence and/or motivate others with strong sense of diplomacy and sound judgement.
  • Experience in budget development and monitoring.
  • Experience mentoring and supervising volunteers, and students, and delegating work. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to think in creative, innovative ways, see `outside the box’.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation and leadership skills.
  • Experience in promotion and publicity; ability to design, write and produce promotional/informational materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues and community members and excellent communication skills –both written and oral.
  • Proven research, proposal and report writing skills.
  • Well-developed analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function well in a team setting and in a leadership capacity. 
  • Proficiency with available computer technology, spreadsheet, database, publishing and word processing software. Knowledge and experiencing developing Access Databases is an asset.
  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset.

Salary: $51,642 - $62,219 per annum

Hours: 35 hours per week, full-time

Duration: Permanent
