General News
Big changes ahead in healthcare
Health system transformation has begun! After over 25 years of advocacy for health system reform, the Ontario government is finally making some big changes to reward organizations that provide good quality “patient-centred care."
In his most recent blog, Ted Ball discusses the new economic incentives and merger strategies that will drive change in our healthcare system over the next few years. Ted is a system transformation coach, and former policy advisor and former chief of staff to Ministers of Health from all three political parties. Ted will lead a workshop at AOHC's upcoming primary health care conference.
Healthydebate’s first public event:
money matters!
One in five of
health care dollars in Ontario is spent paying doctors. How they are paid impacts the quality and costs of
health care.
Healthydebate.ca introduces their first public event, Money Matters: how your doctor gets paid impacts the quality of your health care. They promise a lively discussion on options and opportunities for change.
When: Tuesday, May 8, 5:30 – 7:30
p.m.
Where: 209 Victoria Street, Toronto (2nd
floor)
Li
Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital
Come out and let us know what matters to you when it comes to paying your doctor.
Change Foundation survey: seniors and caregivers
The Change Foundation is in the process of implementing key components of their Strategic Plan - Hearing the stories, changing the story.
They ask for 10 minutes of your time to take a survey about how you perceive the experiences of seniors with chronic conditions and their caregivers and what you see as the barriers and opportunities to improving that experience. Survey closes April 27.

Centre News
Reminder: Community Health Week has moved to October
Just in case your centre was starting to plan for Community Health Week, we wanted to remind you that the week-long celebration has been moved to the first week of October. The decision was made at a recent AOHC board meeting. The reason: the extensive planning required to make Community Health Week a success will no longer conflict with the extensive planning required to make the annual AOHC conference a success!
And of course don't forget to register for the conference!
CHC chat: Social media for CHCs: moving beyond communications
What is CHC
chat?
CHC chat is a weekly
Twitter-based discussion forum about various topics in community-oriented primary health
care.
Each week, participants engage in a free-flowing discussion wrapped around one or two pre-scheduled topics. The discussion is tied together by the Twitter hashtag #CHCchat. Participants can discuss the topics and questions, sharing insights, resources, and follow-up questions. CHC chat allows participants to network, identify areas of mutual interest, and connect further offline.
This Week's
Chat
This week, the topic of
discussion is Social media for CHCs: moving beyond communications. Participants will discuss best practices
for engaging partners, communities, and health and social service clients. Join the conversation to discuss
how your health centre uses social media to engage in dialogue, and what the next steps are to further this
engagement.
Where and
when?
CHC chat takes place every
Thursday from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. (EST). Follow the conversation on Twitter using hashtag
#CHCchat.
Check out the CHC chat website for more information.
