November 13, 2007 - SECOND STAGE OF MEDICARE Report now available
What's the Second Stage of Medicare all about? It's not any one policy or practice. It's a way of describing a series of innovations that will solve – and already are solving – many of the current challenges and problems we face in our health system.
The Second Stage of Medicare offers a vision for health, and health care that builds on Medicare's founding values: that as Canadians we must care for one another. The Second Stage of Medicare means a system-wide change in approach. Reorganizing health care to better deliver health promotion, prevention and treatment services more effectively and equitably will be crucial. Responding to determinants of health originating outside the health care system – such as pollution, poverty and poor education – will also be vitally important.
