New CHCs

On November 10, 2005, the Ontario government recognized the contribution of Ontario's CHCs and their critical future role within the provincial health system, announcing creation of 22 new CHCs and 17 smaller Satellite CHCs by 2008. The announcement was made from the east Toronto community of Malvern, one of the first sites selected for a new CHC, the TAIBU CHC.

TAIBU CHC and eight Toronto area Satellite CHCs were announced as a central part of the provincial response to high-risk Toronto communities identified in the 2005 City of Toronto and United Way of Greater Toronto report, Strong Neighbourhoods: A Call to Action...

Another 17 of the new CHCs and seven Satellite CHCs are being supported by the Ontario government as a key pillar of its Strong Rural Communities Strategy.
